Here's a spectacular project
from the 2006 season. It is over 170' long, 65' wide and 12' deep.
Approximately 35,000 gallons per minute flow down the creeks and

Introduction to HabiScapes and
Low-maintenance Gardening HabiScapes is owned, and operated
by Sue and Gordon Scaggs.
- residents of Missoula 30+ years
- long-term research of grizzly bear habitat with the Dr. John
Craighead research institute
- both are Master Gardeners
- Sue coordinates the Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program for
the National Wildlife Federation, Missoula
- Gordon is a habitat biologist with an M.S. from U. of Montana.
HabiScapes'
spectacular ponds and waterfalls are recirculating and filtering
constantly, so do not serve as breeding areas for mosquitoes that
prefer standing water. Whether a single pond or multiple ponds
with connecting cascades of waterfalls and creeks, HabiScapes'
water features replicate natural flowing mountain creeks and pools.
Their unique focus is to create spectacular beauty, while providing
critical habitat components to encourage hummingbirds, song birds,
and butterflies. They insist that well-designed perennial beds
are lower maintenance than
your typical "sea of lawn" and are a lot more enjoyable.
They nurture a flowering season that lasts from March into November.
Their designs have been featured in newspapers and on television.
As a featured garden on the Missoula Garden Tour, people were
surprised to find that the garden they considered their favorite,
was also a certified and registered Backyard Wildlife Habitat
with the National Wildlife Federation.
The increased diversity of songbirds, hummingbirds, and butterflies
will make your yard an oasis for both your family and the wildlife. |
